Saab Key Replacement

It can be very frustrating to lose or have your car keys stolen. It's easy and inexpensive to get a new car key if there is an additional key.

You'll need to get rid of the old electronic key fob and then program it to your vehicle using a saab Tech 2 device. You'll pay a fee if you delay this process.

Keys that were stolen or lost are not found

The car keys are exactly the same to make copies of now as it was twenty years ago. Modern keys are equipped with an electronic chip. These chips provide a good amount of protection against theft and key copying. This does not mean you'll never lose your key.

If you do lose your keys, don't panic! The first thing you must do is to look over the places where you normally put your keys. You might find them in your jacket pocket, pants pocket or even lying on the ground next to your front door. If you're still unable to locate your keys, contact a locksmith to visit your vehicle and assist you in finding the keys.

If all your keys are lost, a dealer will replace your car computer (Saab 900 Key (Menwiki.Men) CIM or saab 9-3 key fob programming Twice) in order to make a new key for you. The ignition key on the 03-11 SAAB is not very robust. They can become sticky and the buttons can even fall out from time to time. If you're stuck with one ignition key that works it is recommended to make a duplicate as soon as possible to avoid any inconveniences.

Lockouts

Saab owners should have an extra key in case of need as it's much easier to replace keys that are lost or stolen. If you lose only one key it's a different matter since it's expensive to add one and requires the dealer to install and program a new TWICE module (Column Integration Module in earlier cars) and also a brand new key that is OEM (not from Amazon or eBay).

If your remote control keys aren't locking or unlocking the vehicle, there are a number of possibilities for the cause. The most common cause is a dead coin-cell battery inside the key fob. However, it can be caused by worn-out buttons as well as water damage or receiver module issues.

If the issue continues to persist after having checked all of these, you can try reprogramming the ignition key. This is done by changing (in inverse Hex) the number count to zero in the ECU. You'll need to remove the case of the key fob in order to do this. The most efficient method to accomplish this is by removing the emergency key from the fob. You can then use a flathead to remove the fob's casing and expose the battery. Be careful when opening the case and avoid pouring or dropping any liquids into the case because they could damage the electronic components within.

Broken Keys

Since 1995, every Saab is required to have an immobilizer for the vehicle. This makes it almost impossible to steal a car without a specific key. Replacement

Owners of Saab vehicles from around 1994 and up are advised to keep at least two working keys for their vehicle. Replacing just one key can be costly and complicated. The dealer will have to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics) in accordance with the model, and the key itself; plus it must be programmed to work with the new module. Claimed-new keys from aftermarket sellers are generally not properly initialized and could fail to properly program when you need them.

It is not uncommon for the battery in the key fob to wear out after a couple of years of use, especially when it is used frequently to lock and unlock the car. Fortunately, replacing the battery in most SAAB 9-3 key fob models is easy and doesn't require any special tools.
