Saab Key Programming

Saab cars made since 1994 utilize an immobilizer system that relies on coded keys. A new transponder is required for the addition of an additional key, and special programming. This is usually done by the dealer, using a specially-designed Tech2 diagnostic tool.

It can be costly. It is always advisable to keep an extra set of keys available.

Transponder key

The transponder is a piece of key equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends out a signal when the key is put into the ignition. The car will then check the signal to determine whether it is the same as the one that is in the key. If the signals are in sync it will unlock and start. This is a great method to stop car theft and keep your car key reprogramming safe from thieves.

Transponder keys are an increasingly popular feature for automobiles, but they are not as safe as traditional metal keys. The metal part of the traditional key is easily copied and cut, but transponders are protected by an electronic chip that guards it. This chip contains an unique code which is programmed into a car's computer order to identify it.

Jumpstarting the battery

The majority of people have a set of jumper cables in their trunks to use in an emergency however, jumping a battery on newer cars might not be the best idea. They have numerous computers and digital devices that communicate with one another. A surge in voltage while the battery is connected to another battery could fry the components and render your vehicle undriveable.

Connect the cables to the vehicle operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal of the battery that's good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the disabled car's hood. The engine block is an ideal choice. Don't connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery as this could cause a spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.

Once the cables are connected, you should start the car and let it run about five minutes. Then, disconnect them in reverse. The battery in your Saab 9-3 is recharged while you drive.
